The Naperville Fencing Club has been promoting the art of Olympic-style fencing in northern Illinois since 1984. We've offered instruction in a diverse array of communities such as Naperville, Downer's Grove, Glen Ellyn, St. Charles, Wasco, Oak Brook, and Kishwaukee College, as well as other sites around DuPage, Will, and Kane Counties. We have a number of competitors active in local and regional competitions, as well as a few nationally. If you're interested in learning how to fence, skip down to our current beginning class offerings, near the bottom of this page.

At NFC, we take a somewhat different approach to fencing, stressing fitness, constant and vigorous physical training, simple techniques, a strong mental game, and a tight-knit group. This isn't always for everyone. All we require is the desire to keep showing up, to keep trying your best, and to generally behave yourself. Upon occasion, we have been known to discourage membership to fencers who while possessing excellent fencing skills, display an attitude towards fellow fencers that is unpleasant, abusive, or dismissive. The result has been a close-knit group of people who ALL put forth the effort. We also display a very unusual attitude towards competitions. We view competitions as important, but NOT as a goal. Training is everything. To develop, to cultivate ourselves as fencers, and as people is the goal. Competitions are a very valuable method of testing that training, but must never become the "at-all-costs" focus of a student. Competitions can also just be good clean fun! So we do very much value competitive fencing, but it's not about the medals, it's about the people. This may sound strange, or even impossible, but over the course of time, it's who we are.
